The machines I build are only one aspect of my work. The whole room is important.
I try to create moods, deliberately directing sensations in certain ways. Often I can use information already available within the room.
Memories occur: colours and tones spark different reminiscences, marks left on the floor link to the past. Some of the works are not placed on the wall like a work of art, but are instead placed outwith the normal “art” environment where they are initially not recognized as art.
The idea of irritation is central to my work. I feel that our sensations are limited. We recognize them in a singular context but shut out the variety of other meanings.
Through irritations borders are expanded, systems questioned, apparent truths made strange.
My works do not explain themselves and need not to be explained. In fact, the opposite:
questions may arise but will find no answers; mysteries will be left unsolved.
A personal approach is required about one´s own memories, playfulness, knowledge, beauty...
How far one participates in the work is up to the visitor. But somethimes, simply passing by, one can be incorporated into the work, even as the initiator.
